Airport safe/steel free footwear refers to footwear made without the use of steel. In order to provide basic support and stability, shoes generally feature a metal plate called a shank, which is located within the sole and right below the arch. Airport safe/steel free shoes replace this steel structure with a composite, non-metal shank that will not trigger metal detectors, yet still offers the same support.

I bought these because of heel pain that made it almost impossible for me to walk. By the time I wore these for a full day, I was able to take the dog for a 1 1/2 mile walk. I still have pain and limp, but the shoes make it possible to walk. I highly recommend them. I use these with no socks in Florida, so I ordered my normal size 8 1/2 wide and they fit fine. If I wanted to wear socks with them at my home farther north, I would definitely need a 9 wide.

I ordered my first pair over a year ago and they are the absolute most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever had. I am a nurse and on my feet a lot. Well, I ordered two pairs this time!!! I wish they made a shoe for a MORE DAY TO DAY use and in different colors!!!!
