Product Information for Vasque

Product Description

Although launched in 1984, from a technical standpoint, the Sundowner was looking forward from the start. For its first decade of existence, the boot was as fast and light as they came. Already known for its seamless waterproof design, the Sundowner upped the ante by also becoming one of the first hiking boots in the world to feature Gore-Tex®. With its clean, classic lines and remarkable fit, the boot quickly came to represent the heart and soul of Vasque. To this day, the Sundowner GTX remains a top-selling style.

The Sundowner features the Classic Vasque outsole, and Gore-Tex® for durable waterproofing.

Fit Profile: The Sundowner GTXS is built on the Sundowner Last.

Love Them!
By NG, from Boston, Ma | March 04, 2014
Love these boots! Initially some rubbing on one of my ankles but after wearing them for a bit and crushing the top a bit, its almost gone. Agree with prior reviews to order one half size down. They make me happy commuting and keep my feet warm and dry.

Wonderful hiking boots
By Rebecca, from New York City | February 25, 2014
I bought these boots a month ago and spent 10 days breaking them in before a hiking trip. They are very comfortable with thick socks and insoles except for inside of one ankle, as others have reported. I used foam padding to alleviate pressure, which worked. I am very pleased with fit and stability. Hiking in terrain with sharp rocks meant scuffs, a couple of which abraded the finished leather toes. I seamlessly repaired a small flap with a glue suggestion from the web. These are hiking boots, so I don't mind a few scratches; I just don't want waterproofing compromised. My 4 stars will go to 5 as ankle problems abate.

Comfortable
By Becky, from Salt Lake City | January 17, 2013
I love these boots. I ordered my 2nd pair a year ago. I bought my first boots four years ago. I hike every weekend (close to the mountains). I wear these boots year around. They are not too hot in the summer. Waterproof for the spring, winter, and fall. There is not a break in period. The boots are so comfortable the first time you put them on and thereafter. They are 1/2 size too large even if you wear thick socks. I highly recommend these boots.

Not the same boot...
By Disappointed, from Chicago | December 27, 2012
My partner has a pair of the Italian-made Sundowners, probably ten years old at this point or more, and they've held up over time and still look great. I read the reviews cautioning that the quality was not the same but thought I'd try ordering anyway (I'd always wanted a pair...). They showed up, I compared them to the old boots and put them right back in the box. Not the same at all. Stitching and leather is inferior, the workmanship is not the same, and the tongue construction is totally different. The deal-breaker was the unpadded eyelet at the top of the boot just riveted through the boot. The original was lined and padded behind the top eyelet, and I see why the new version gave other reviewers ankle blisters who actually tried to hike in this cheap knock-off. I'm not chancing it- anyone have recommendations on a similar boot that's not made in China, is good-looking, water-resistant, and can stand up to farm and trail abuse? What a shame, I really wanted to like these!

Vasque Sundowner
By M. DeMarr, from Northern Wisconsin | March 05, 2012
This pair of Vasque's were a replacement for 20 year old Sundowner's. Boot design remains very similar and the new boots are of great quality. Really very pleased with the purchase. On a side note, if break in time is an indication of quality, then these boots are awesome in quality, as it has taken several weeks of use to get them partially broken in.

Great Boots
By Becky, from Salt Lake City | February 09, 2012
These are my second pair. They don't need to be broken in. They fit perfectly. I wear them hiking fall, winter and spring. They are waterproof! I would highly recommend these boots just buy them 1/2 size smaller. I hope Vasque keeps making them. I'll cry if they quit.

Great boots
By Kathy, from Foley, MN | August 23, 2011
I bought the Vasque Sundowner boots because my sister has a pair and recommended them. They are a great fit! My backpacking trip in Colorado broke them in; they performed beautifully!
