This boot seems perfectly designed for the serious backpacker who also enjoys mountaineering but can't justify purchase of double plastic boots. I have backpacked about 30 miles in these boots so far. Initially disappointed to see that the boots were Chinese, not European, but oh well. Really cool lacing system locks the laces over the instep so they don't loosen as you do the ankle hooks. Had some pain at first with the folds on the tongue gusset pinching nerves in my ankle, but easily solved with looser lacing around the ankle. No question this would have been an absolute deal-breaker if I couldn't solve it. Thanks to the great lacing system though, I can have snug fit over the instep and be generous around the ankle. Great big rubber rand and nice sticky rubber sole allow easier scrambling with loaded pack. My strap-on crampons fit well though I haven't actually used them with these boots in the field.Outstanding all-around boot:- Not too heavy for backpacking, but has rock solid features for mountaineering- Articulated sole is comfortable for walking on hard ground (unlike a full-on mountianeering boot)- Very well suited for climbing on rock- Laces go far toward the toe, good for hooking gaiters- Good fit with strap-on crampons- Compatible with step-in crampons (not tested though)- Gore-Tex keeps you dry even after hours in slushI'm looking forward to many years of service from this boot.

I've only had the boots for a few weeks now. Break in for the most part was easy. I wear them 24/7 now, and have been out on 2 weekend backpack trips. Had no problem at all with them.I've hiked my way through several pairs of heavy duty boots during my life, and if I could think of one complaint, its would concern the double tongue system these boots use. I guess I'm just not used to it.Another concern that I had at first was the left boot seemed to fit much tighter around my toes. A bit of break in and lacing that boot a little looser has taken care of the rubbing. I believe it was just a factory defect for my left foot is slightly smaler then my right.Over all, I beleieve I'm going to be very happy with these boots.
