Tuga was created as a line of sun protective products in order to give kids and parents the ability to assure the best protection from harmful UV damage, but do so in a fun and fashionable way. Tuga's philosophy is that in order to protect your skin from the sun, you don't have to go to the extreme by wearing clothing that tries to cover every inch of skin. Tuga also does't think that you have to trade off style and fashion for protection. Too many products on the market focus on the utilitarian approach and forget the fact that in order for the products to be effective, they have to be used. And kids will not use products that are boring or "un-cool". Tuga's goal is to educate parents and kids on safe sun habits and to provide a program of products that make it fun and easy to do so. Tuga swimsuits are designed to provide greater body coverage, yet still be functional.
The patterns are designed to be form fitting and to incorporate stylish cuts. And through the use of colorful designs, Tuga wants to make sure kids are looking the best at the beach or the pool. Tuga uses fabrics that are made specifically, both through the knitting and dying process, to meet the 50+ UPF standards of blocking 97.5% of UV rays. There is clear consensus in the medical community that skin cancer can be virtually 100% prevented by developing 5 sun safety habits early in life: Use SPF 15+ sunscreen, wear UPF rated clothing, protect the eyes with UV400 sunglasses, cover the head ears neck and face with a hat, and reduce time spent in the sun from 10am to 4pm. The Tuga line of products take care of 4 out of 5 of those sun safety measures when kids are at the beach and in the water. Most people do not know that the average person receives 80% of his/her lifetime sun exposure before the age of 18. With the increasing rates of skin cancer it is imperative that parents teach good sun care habits at an early age.
