I bought this shoe for extended travel in Spain and Portugal, hoping to find a comfortable walking shoe with thick soles for cushioning on hard pavement and a gripping tread that would help maintain traction on steep and often slick downhill streets and walkways, as in Arcos de la Frontera and other hill towns. I also wanted a shoe that would look at least decent with slacks and a sport coat.I have now worn them daily in Spain for three weeks, and I am delighted on all counts. I'd hardly had time to try out the shoes before leaving for Europe, but they proved comfortable from the first day of tramping the streets of Madrid, and by now they have conformed themselves perfectly to my feet. Despite miles of walking nearly every day, often in considerable heat, they continue to smell like new leather. There's been no opportunity to test them in the rain, so I don't know whether they'll keep feet dry. My only criticism is that they scuff rather easily, but a dab of polish every few days takes care of that. All in all, a very comfortable and serviceable pair of traveling shoes.
