March 17, 2013, I will participate for my 5th time in the Bataan Memorial Death March at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. I decided this year I will do a personal memorial to the living Bataan Veterans by replicating and wearing on the 26.2-mile walking marathon the uniform of the 200th Coast Artillery (WWII New Mexico National Guard sent to Bataan). The uniform is available from WWII reenactment vendors but the largest service boot size made by them is 13 and I wear 15EE. So looked over the internet for a look-alike, and this is the only one my size. To get ready for the event, you need to put 100 miles on the shoe or boot you will wear. Wear it every day and go on long hikes in the period-correct uniform on pavement and backcountry dirt roads as that is what the march route is like - and to get a good weathered look on the uniform. 50 miles so far and the boot feels wonderful. I have learned from the four other events to wear knee-high wool socks with knee-high silk liners so the socks don't slip down in. I would love to send you a photo of me while I'm on the march - these boots will be perfect - and another review following march completion as will have 126.2 miles on the boot of intense use (and then I might start doing WWII reenacting with the boot) and certainly wear them regularly. The described oversize works perfect for me.

Let me say I have been test wearing this indoors because of the cold and snow,I am a little afraid to wear them outdoors with the soft finish. I really have become a fan of Timberline, this shoe scares me because I think there quality has slipped since last year, bought a similar pair and they have been great and you know when you get a great something in a shoe you hope the next pair is as good,
