The Ultra 104 GTX XCR® is our most rugged, protective, stable trail-running shoe bolstered with waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex® to tackle the season's most heinous trails. For trail runners who always push their limits, and require a technical, supportive shoe to see them through the thick of things, these will take you to places you previously thought were inaccessible.
A waterproof, teeth-gnashing beast that delivers rugged, reliable performance on the roughest trails. Features a Gore-Tex XCR® waterproof, breathable membrane, abrasion-resistant, bomber synthetic upper overlasted in the forefoot for superior support and protection, TPU toe cap with venting for enhanced breathability, gusseted tongue prevents debris from entering and Wide-based and regular lacing eyelets allow for ultimate customization of fit and adjustability.
Also has a Northotic™ ergonomically-designed footbed with Poron® forefoot and heel inserts, lightweight, dual-density, compression-molded EVA midsole with X-2™ provides high impact cushioning, semi-straight lasted, with medial posting through first met head for maximum overpronation support, innovative ESS forefoot Snake Plate™ gives ultimate protection from stone bruising without sacrificing flexibility and the UltrATAC™ outsole features semi-independent heel pods for ultimate traction and stability over varied terrain.

I liked the fact that this shoe fit well, and felt good, once you got used to it. I have worn this shoe on a nearly daily basis for the past month or so. The shoe seems to bother the bottom on my ankle for a little while after putting it on (even now), but gets better after a little while. Apart from that, I am not sure if the shoe offers the heel support it should (I am going to invest in extra support). It does offer the arch support it says it does.

I really like the shoe but the front part of the shoe does not have as much curve in the toe as my previous North Face Shoes I have purchased. This is a minor thing and is most noticeable when stepping onto the cement after walking in the grass. I would still by another pair in the future.
