A Pair for a Foot: 2012 Clean Water Stewardship

There's a lot of talk these days about cause-related marketing and corporate outreach. It seems like every few months there is a new it cause out there, but at Teva we're a bit of an anomaly, because we've been supporting the same cause since our inception more than 25 years ago: Water. Where you find water, you find life. It's a simple philosophy, but it relates to a fundamental truth of this world. Ever since we were born on the Colorado river in 1984, we've felt a deeply ingrained connection to water. That's why we're embarking on our most ambitious effort yet: A Pair for a Foot. For every pair of Teva shoes sold we will help protect a linear foot of global waterways in rivers, lakes and oceans. We are targeting to steward 4.4. million feet worldwide by the end of the year.

  • Beyond the Drop

"2.2 seconds of pure stoke and fear. It's the eye-candy everyone wants to see. But it's only a fraction of a story. What you don't see, the everything else that gets us to this moment in time, is the true reason we choose to make these rivers our life. There's a story behind every drop. And this is ours."

Six extreme kayakers from all over the world meet up to explore other countries and tackle turbulent waters. The rivers serve as an escape and place of contemplation for the athletes. They all discuss their fears, apprehensions, and excitement about the difficult Agua Azul river and waterfalls.

"There's an old saying that the journey is as important as the destination. It's cliché, it's overused, and it's very true. For us as kayakers, it's not just the waterfall. It's the whole river - the rapids we run, the people we meet along the way, the friends we share our journey with. For me, that's where I belong. That's where I want to be. That's where I'm always trying to get back to."

  • TevaSphere Designer Paul LaBarbera's Inspiration

TevaSphere Designer Paul LaBarbera became a designer to utilize his natural critiquing and his love of drawing. Like any designer, his aim was to create something that he would actually want to wear. The TevaSphere project was an exciting endeavor, because it challenged LaBarbera to come up with something that looks completely different than anything else on the market. Designing anything requires rearranging things to make every element work perfectly and sometimes, even an imbalanced design can be the most beautiful one.

  • TevaSphere Technology

Shoes are a person's connection to the earth when running outside. For Teva designers, the goal is to find something that needs to be fixed or an experience that can be improved. They began the TevaSphere project when they saw that shoes with a square heel force you to land on an unnatural lever point.

P3, Teva's Peak Performance Project, merges science with athletic development. The team needs to use their skepticism to make sure that the product works exactly the way it should. Teva aimed for a completely innovative shoe that would be great on rugged terrain.

The rounded heel allows a smooth transition on the foot strike for a more natural and efficient stride. Special pods add support around the arch for stability when needed.

Teva uses force plate testing to measure how much force is being put into the ground with each step. That, paired with video, allows a unique and accurate analysis of the foot. Through testing, Teva discovered that the TevaSphere outperformed standard hiking, walking, and running shoes.

TevaSphere is a groundbreaking technology that meets performance needs of athletes in a lightweight and supportive shoe, providing exactly what the body needs.
