I had no intention of buying this shoe. I was looking for a completely different type of shoe and when I saw this shoe, I went into a nostolgic trance. I was in the first generation that embraced madras as a fashion phenomenon. What did a young Richard Dreyfess wear in "American Graffitti" as the high school graduate with an undecided future who distracted himself with a beautiful blond in a convertible on "cruise night"--a short-sleeved, front button madras shirt. Madras was the chosen fabric for among both sexes--shirts, belts, hats, bathing suits in the mid-60's. It appealed mostly to people under 30 who were then becoming the demographic that influenced consumer spending and fashion trends more than any other group.So when I saw these great topsiders, reputed as one of the most comfortable, casual shoes on the market--made out of madras fabric--that was it--the past merged with the present and I bought them without thinking twice. The comfort of the shoe does not disappoint and the madras--well, I think I've already said it all. Love this shoe.
