A little stiff March 12, 2013
Reviewer: Tzvi from Southfield, MI
I always bought Rockport because the shoe is light, fit my wide foot well, and the leather was supple yet supportive. This time the shoe is stiff. And it is not breaking in well. The fit is true, but the shoe doesn't "give" the way I have become accustomed to Rockport. While light, it doesn't feel as cushioned as I am used to with my other Rockport dressport type shoes.

Not as Comfortable as Hoped February 21, 2013

The leather finish is very dull, and doesn't polish to a shine well at all; and the top part of the heel is hard, and tough where it hugs the back of the foot. Adequate, but I don't know that I would buy them again.

Great shoe. A step up from my other J&M shoes. December 31, 2012

I purchased my J&M Melton shoes in 10.5 3E, Black to have a more professional pair of dress shoes around the office or for meetings. I own 3 other pairs of J&M shoes over the years which include 2 pairs of the Bicycle Shuler, and a Harding Panel Toe Oxford. Those two models are not refurbishable whereas this new Melton is (for a fee). The leather upper feels higher quality than the other J&M shoes I own and appears much sleeker and professional all around. The sole is quite stiff in the beginning but just after a few days of wearing the Melton, it has become much softer. Before this, I also tried a pair of Allen Edmonds Kenilworth in 10.5 3E but the width was way too small. My feet felt cramped as soon as I inserted them into the shoes. The soles were also much stiffer than this pair of Melton's. It would have been a pain to break in the Kenilworth so I returned it.I would recommend this shoe if you're looking for a nicer pair of dress shoes by Johnston & Murphy.

Luxury, Comfort, Style November 22, 2012

When it comes to style and comfort in a business shoe, this shoe is as good as it gets. No other shoe that I have owned looks better with a good suit. I can wear this shoe all day, around the office and the city, and my feet feel fine at the end of the day. However, as with all traditional leather outer-soled shoes, the bottom outer-sole will wear down overtime. That is why I docked the shoe 1 star. For the price of an Allen Edmonds business shoe, I would like to see the outer-sole last a little longer before needing repair or reconstruction.

Super comfortable October 18, 2012
Reviewer: Markitos from Buffalo, NY
The shoe is versatile. Dressy enough to be worn with a suit but not too dressy for khakis. The shoe is unbelievably comfortable! The sole and pad are great for wearing all day long and does not need any time to break in the shoe. Also, the back of the shoe, just above the heel, does not cut into your foot like so many other shoes do for the first month you own them. I would recommend this shoe to everyone!
