In 1993, Nanny Glerup made, for the first time, a pair of slippers from pure, natural wool from the Glerup family's own Gotland sheep. At that time, Nanny could make 2 pairs per day. Since the start in 1993, Nanny and her husband Ove have worked hard developing the product and improving the production.
Glerups are made using 100% pure, natural wool. Soft, flexible calfskin soles are used on all indoor models. For outdoor wear, a natural rubber sole is also available on select models.
It has always been a clear objective to produce Glerups with care for people, the animal and the environment. The wool is mechanically cleaned—to the best extent possible—to avoid all unnecessary chemicals. Only dyes that are free of heavy metals and toxic azo-dyes are used.
The wool is naturally processed and closely followed throughout the manufacturing process, all the way from sheep to shoe. The wool is washed in soft water and then carded. Carded wool is then made into socks and steam-felted. The soles are glued and sewn onto the socks. After some final finishing touches, Glerups are ready for shipment!
