Reviewer: Darryl from Tulsa Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width I've had a lot of outdoor kind of shoes in my life but I've never had one as well designed as these. For durability they have a lot of protection on the outside of the shoe with all the rubber around the toe and heel. They are also by far them most comfortable shoe of this kind I've ever had. I don't know how they would perform on a hike on rocky terrain but I suspect the sole might be a little soft for that. But I have some heavy duty hiking shoes for that which also happen to be Vasques. Wears this shoe: Every day winter and long walks on mild to medium tough terrain. Reviewer: John from Ashland, OR Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width I went looking for the identical shoe I bought five years ago, because this hiking shoe has served me well in the Sierras, in the Himalayas, all around. I was delighted to find the identical show, only a slight (disappointing) change in color. Wears this shoe: Hiking and backpacking Reviewer: Bruce B from Keeling,Va Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width These are the best, most comfortable, and tough shoes I have worn for everyday usage. The first pair I bought amazed me, I used them on a trip to Alaska, and my feet were never wet in much rain, these shoes are excellent for biking, walking, and winter wear. Other than that I can't think of anything I dislike about this shoe. Best shoe for the money. Mid height works well with shoe inserts. Wears this shoe: work and casual wear Reviewer: R. Greer from Ky. Shoe Size: Felt half size larger than marked Shoe Width: Felt true to width I have worn Vasque Catalyst for more than 5 years and they are the most comfortable, longest lasting, walking, hiking, casual shoe I've ever worn. The only thing that wears out on the Catalyst is the shoestrings. I thought such a fine shoe brand deserves brand loyalty so I bought 2 pairs, Vasque Velocity and another pair of Vasque Catalyst. Both new pairs are comfortable, just like my first pair of Catalyst, from day one. I'm not easy on shoes and other brands I've tried hurt my feet but not the Vasque. I still wear the old Vasque Catalyst shoes but I wanted to be sure that I would have a new equally comfortable shoe in the future so I bought 2 pairs so I'm set for years to come. I usually am not excited about shoes, but my experience with Vasque has been remarkable. One note is that I normally wear 9 1/2-10 size shoes but the 10 1/2M shoe is perfect for my foot. Also, after searching the net, I was pleased to find the exact same style shoe after years of wearing the Catalyst. The Catalyst is ready to wear out of the box, yet is surprisingly sturdy. The sole provides plenty of protection from rocks on the trail, and thanks to Stealth Rubber, sticks like glue. The uppers provide great support for the ankles. I found the Catalyst to be light, flexible and waterproof. The boot's sole is a strange hybrid of lugs in front, and a running shoe-type sole at the heel. Despite this weird configuration, it works in most conditions. The Catalyst is suitable for day hikes, light backpacking, climbing approaches and some Class IV or light Class V climbs. Wears this shoe: Hiking, light backpacking, climbing approaches. Reviewer: Samwalker from Western Pa. Shoe Size: Felt half size smaller than marked Shoe Width: Felt narrower than marked I specifically purchased this shoe for the purpose of "daily" 2 mile walks/hikes with my 2yr. old, 75# Samoyed (sled dog). I needed comfort and control on pavement, hard dirt, shale, loose soil, leaves, mud, snow and slush, regardless of weather conditions. I have to admit these shoes really surprised me. They don't seem to fail at anything. They also have surprisingly good traction on icy/slick surfaces, unlike most boots. If you know what it's like to on-leash hike with a powerful dog, you'll love this shoe. Thanks to these Catalysts, I now look forward to these hikes as much as she does. These mid-hikers are comfortable and really didn't require a break-in period. I did, however, find them to be a bit narrow (even for my narrowish feet)in the toebox, which I remedied by loosening the laces in the front of the shoes. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful: Reviewer: JP Largefellow from Seattle, Washington Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width Not a particularly cool looking shoe/color, but incredibly comfortable. The traction these things get in wet/icy weather is amazing. A great day hiker. I think the shoe looks better and fits better. This is an update of the Vasque Catalyst that I have been wearing for the past five years. It is a little higher on the ankle which is fine. I had a bad ankle injury 27 years ago, so I need a really, really good shoe and this the best that I have ever tried. Wears this shoe: Biking, hiking, motorcycle trips, skiing trips, camping trips, etc. Reviewer: Anonymous from Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to width Very Very comfortable. I'll buy it again and again. Reviewer: AL from Florida. Shoe Size: Felt half size larger than marked Shoe Width: Felt true to width These mid-hikers are fabulous. They are the best ever hikers and my second pair. I spend a lot of time carrying heavey camera equipment and my feet never tire, hurt or overheat and burn. My goals of a waterproof, narrow, mid boot for support have been acheived. My long, narrow feet are hard to fit so when I tried on a sale pair in Telluride this summer, I was surpised that they actually fit in width but were too short by a half size. After watching the net for awhile, I finally found the correct size and width at a great price at Shoebuy.com. I have been wearing them quite a bit and can say they are excellent for long hikes, have a solid sole for rough terrain, and are definitely waterproof. I have found the inner sole to be fairly hard, so a soft cushioned sock makes them just right.
