I just replaced my last pair which I purchased in 2002. I wore then outdoors every summer and they were my regular 'about the house' shoes as well. I can't bear to throw them away, so they will sit in my closet til I die. I have never had any other footwear last anywhere near as long. Spectacularly comfortable as well. I bought a new pair today and I am looking forward to many years with them. If you are on the fence about buying Birks - just do it. You won't be sorry.

After about 25 years of wearing Arizona's, I now have a new set in Cortina leather. They're very nice and look like all the other leather Arizonas that I've had - but definitely one of the nicer uppers. They're lightweight and comfortable, and they are close to a universally practical summer shoe or an all-season shoe for some of us. For me, Arizonas typically last 2-3 years, but I'm probably on a stress test users list somewhere - I wear them everywhere and anywhere: in rain, snow, into freshwater streams, and into saltwater - in a word, ruthlessly. One pair even spent a large portion of the winter misplaced outdoors and survived. They get a huge amount of mileage with me. Occasionally they get recorked or resoled, but usually by that the time they need that, the foot bed is starting to deteriorate too, but before you think that 2-3 years seems like a short life (I can't think of *any* footwear that would survive what I put these through except maybe Crocs). As far as I can tell, the leather uppers are utterly indestructable and continue to look respectable no matter what evil may have happened to them. They come very, very highly recommended. Your mileage won't vary. I can't/won't comment on the non-leather upper versions - I've never owned a set.
Wears this shoe: daily - all year... ok, not when the snow is deep.

I have been wearing Birkenstocks for over 30 years. I wear them inside the house continually. We remove shoes when coming inside. Unfortunately, this pair of Birkenstocks is not as comfortable as all of my others. I have not been able to wear them continually. For some reason, they do not seem to fit properly, even though I always get the same size.

This newest pair of Birkinstock Arizona style is only the 3rd pair I have owned in 37 years of wearing birki's--so my 1st 2 pairs lasted an average of 18 years (granted -- I did replace soles and service the cork).They require no 'break-in' period and always look 'current' -- even with all the new sandal styles that come out each year. My wife & 2 daughters have had similar experiences.

I've had Birkenstock Arizona's for the last 10 years or so. I love them. They're best with real leather tops or, at least, suede tops.
