My son has wide feet and it is hard to find shoes that fit true to size. The New Balance does that. In addition, it holds up to the rough and tumble life style of a very active 7 year old. The shoe in black is easy to maintain. I bought the white ones, and have to throw them in the washer to keep them clean. But they keep their shape well after washing.

Velcro is your friend

Love these shoes. The velcro closures are really quick and easy which makes getting shoes on a squirmy kid much easier than having to try to tie a double knot on a moving target. My child leaves them on most of the time so they must be comfortable.

My daughter loves these shoes. They are durable, comfortable and perfect for school. Excellent quality. I will definitely buy this shoe again. They are easy to get on and off - the tongue does not slip down. In all, I would highly recommend them!

I recently purchased these shoes for my son. I chose a wide width because although his foot seems to be long and narrow, that wasn't the case. His foot is wider than appears. When he got these shoes and wore them to school (we walk everyday, to and from school) he loved them. He said they are very comfortable and his feet didn't hurt anymore. He also said that when these shoes no longer fit, he would love another pair. I am very satisfied with my purchase. Well worth the money.

My 4-year old needed shoes and I never bought him a pair of decent shoes yet, so I didn't know what size to get. I guessed right on the size but got a regular width. When we got the shoes, they were definitely too narrow. So I sent those back, and ordered right away another pair 1/2 size bigger and the wide width. Bingo!! Perfect fit!

My 6 year old daughter has extremely narrow feet and it is very difficult to find shoes--especially tennis shoes that fit her feet comfortably. The New Balance, although marked medium, run more narrow than other brands of tennis shoes. They often tend to run about a 1/2 size larger to fit. Once you are able to gage the size the tennis shoes are a good fit. The velcro closing is also a plus for children.

My daughter is 5 years old and entering Kindergarten and needed all white shoes! She needed the velcro because she has not learned to tie yet. Anyway the shoes are a perfect fit and they can be used for PE as well. She reaches for these, I guess because of the cushion and comfort they provide. I may get the black too to hide dirt.

Great XW Sneaker

I bought these for my 6 year old to wear with his school uniform. He typically wears an extra wide, but even those have been running a little too narrow for him in other brands since he hit size 1. The new balance shoes run just a little wider and deeper than a Stride Rite XW. My son may actually be able to wear cushioned sports socks (for the first time) with these sneakers.I also like that there is a velcro version of this shoe because my son does not know how to tie shoes yet.These would also be a great shoe for a regular or slightly wide width child to wear with AFO's. The only reason I didn't give this shoe 5 stars is because it is visually unappealing and seems like the style is a little out of date. There are not many choices in solid white in an XW width. These will certainly get the job done.

My 5-year-old son loves it. He has a wide foot and the shoe fits perfectly and its light weight. I bought it for school. He's in a private school and they needed the shoe to be all black. And him being in kindergarten the velcro is perfect! We couldn't find any velcro in size 3. Perfecto! Thumbs up to New Balance!

I bought this shoe because it was light weight, had velcro and my son really liked the first pair I purchased for him. Now that he knows how to tie his shoes we will try the same brand with laces! He is still wearing the first exact pair of Saucony (smaller size). I purchased the bigger pair for school and I was afraid that if I waited too long they would not be available for school.

I first found this shoe when I wanted a solid white shoe and my previous brand quit making plain white. Then I was asked what WIDTH I wanted and I was so impressed. I have a wide foot and need to buy the extra wide width which keeps me from buying a shoe 1/2 size too long to get the fit. This is a shoe that really fits great. They are good looking, fun to wear when you get the velcro- no more shoestrings to buy and quicker to put on. That was an accident, too, but I'll always buy the velcro now. I love this shoe. I have an extra new pair under my bed when I begin wearing a new pair. I never want to run out or have them change the availability. Great supportive shoe, not a flat sole like a cheap flip flop.
