I LOVE this hiking boot. No break in time necessary. I know my size and can buy it on line every time and be sure it's going to feel good. It has great foot and ankle support, great traction, a comfy footbed, laces that stay tied, and is wonderfully waterproof until it gets old. I have to buy a new pair every couple of years because I put on so many hiking/climbing miles.
Wears this shoe: Hiking, backpacking, and climbing mountains. Every day. .spring thru fall.

Solid boots. Leather feels rigid. It's gonna take some time for these boots to be broken-in. And they certainly would look better broken-in too. They can give you problem if you wear them for long hikes because of their heavy weight.My husband had a pair for 15 years and they look the best when they are beat-up.

I bought this, my second pair of Vasque boots, because my first pair was so worn that the lining had become detached. I have a high instep, the front of my foot is wide, and I have had chronic heel problems. This boot is the most comfortable I have ever worn.
Wears this shoe: Whenever I can: hiking, on the beach, in the snow.

Not only is this a very nice looking boot it is equally as comfortable. Great quality leather, requiring little or no break in time. I have used this boot mostly for hiking in the woods on uneven surfaces and it provides very good support for your feet.

This is one sharp looking and very comfortable boot. I just tried it out on a short five mile hike with no extra weight. I didn't even know I had them on, so little break-in time is needed. The true test will come when carrying a back-pack thru some mud bogs and marshy swamps in Florida. I'm sure these boots will perform just fine.

Greatest boot ever!!

The Sundowner is the best hiking boot that I have come across. I have had three pairs now, but I have put every pair through more punishment then other boots would or could handle. I've been around the world in these boots and would not recomend anything less. I also thought that I had remembered reading Vasque was bought out by Red Wing. Quality has remained equal if not better. The new pair I got were black. These things are the realness.

These are beautiful, heavy duty hiking boots. They are a very comfortable fit, but they definitely need a breaking-in period before wearing them on a hike, because they are stiff. With a thin sock, they feel slightly big, but with a heavy hiking sock, they are exactly the size I wear.

I'm still breaking them in, but as the weather gets colder, they're getting more use. I think they'll become more comfortable as they break in some more. But they're stiff because of the leather. They're warm and seem well-made so far. So many of my friends love these shoes and have recommended them, so I'm still hoping I"ll like them as much. So far, I do and even though my feet are a little sore as they break in, they're gettting more comfortable and I think I'm going to really be pleased with them.
Wears this shoe: For walking, hiking, winter tromping, and work backstage at a theatre.

The shoe is very sturdy. I bought it because I needed a rugged, waterproof hiking shoe. The shoes fit perfectly, which made the break-in period very easy and painless. I expect them to last a long time with proper care.

I bought these boots because my husband has had the same pair for 5 years now and loves them. They are amazingly comfortable, and much more attractive than most women's hiking boots (of which there are distressingly few kinds to choose from in malls and such). I didn't even need a "break-in period" for these boots. The waterproof feature is great, and I expect them to last me for many years. Make sure to lace them tight though, or they will feel too loose.

The Vasque Sundowner Classic GTX is a wonderful hiking boot. It is comfortable right from the beginning. There is just the right amount of padding around the ankles. There are no seams to irritate one's feet or toes, and it looks great. Over the years I have tried many brands of hiking boots, and this is the first one that has made me completely happy.
Wears this shoe: I wear the shoe on day hikes and walks almost daily.
