Wears this shoe: 2 hours/week for low-impact arthritis rehab
I won't be buying these again...
By Mari, from New Hampshire | February 08, 2010
I purchased these 8 months ago for low intensity water exercise, 2 hours/week, and they are completely broken down. There's surprisingly little traction for a shoe made for in-pool wear so they slip while walking in the pool, nor is there much arch support or side-to-side stability to the shoe so my feet often roll to the inside or outside (hard on the ankles!) and so it's very hard to keep my balance while on one foot during a stride. I took the worthless insoles out and replaced them with new ones that were both softer and more supportive. It's better than going barefoot as many in my class do but not much, and shoes suitable for actually exercising in water instead of just splashing at the beach are so hard to find! I keep buying and returning. It's almost impossible to get them on when they're wet, but luckily they dry overnight. I do like the elastic speed-lacing, although mine are completely stretched out now. There is so much foam in these that they pull my feet up to the surface during the deep-water part of my workout - I have to put on ankle weights just to keep myself vertical. I have had many dry-land walking shoes that lasted a lot longer with a lot more abuse than these, so I'm pretty disappointed.

Ryka wears well
By Irene, from San Diego | January 28, 2010
I have found my Hydro step shoes good. They provide support for water aerobics and have good sole cushioning which reduces the impact. I have been wearing mine regularly and they have now worn out after about 2 years. My problem is that I cannot find my size in any of the shops now. (8 or 81/2)

Best Support
By Anonymous, from South Windsor, CT | August 09, 2009
This watershoe was the best by far as toe support. My many water aerobic classes demand a good shoe and I found it in this Ryka shoe. This is my first order with you but will not be my last. I usually wear a wide but found that going a half-size up solved this problem this time as the shoe only came in a medium size. Thanks for solving my problem.

Great shoes for Water Aerobics!
By Suzy, from NYC | July 29, 2009
I love these shoes for water aerobics, in fact this is my second pair. I go five days a week and I don't like to put on wet shoes ;) If the weather is good they do dry quickly, but if rainy they are still a little damp the next day. I love that there are NO laces to tie and on days my feet are swollen the laces expand enough to allow me to get them on. I highly recomend these water shoes.

My new Ryka hydrostep
By Bea, from Missouri | July 23, 2009
I use my new Ryka's for water aerobic classes 3 times a week and find them to be comfortable and effective in letting the water drain out. The only problem I have is they are a little difficult for me to get on without a shoe horn although they are plenty large enough and because of their unusual fastening clasp they are difficult to clasp and unclasp. I am considering replacing the laces.

Perfect for narrow foot
By Teri, from Wichita KS | June 21, 2009
The opening for the foot is too narrow and impossible to get foot into if you have any swelling or foot problems, but if your foot is narrow the shoe would be perfect.

Ryka Hydro Step
By Susan Taylor, from Colleyville, Texas | June 16, 2009
The Ryka Hydro-Step shoe was recommended to me by my fellow water aerobics class members. I ordered my normal shoe size, and it fits fine. The shoe gives very good support, also. I should probably order another pair to alternate with!

These shoes are difficult to put on
By Oceanmama1, from Ocean Isle Beach, North Caroline | June 12, 2009
I really was looking forward to wearing these shoes in my twice weekly water aerobics classes. They were tight and hard to put on and gave me a blister. I was unable to wear them at all today because of the blister. I hope that they will break in a bit so that I can wear them to future classes. The back of the shoe seems to slant forward instead of going straight up and I think that is why they are hard to put on and are too tight. I would suggest ordering a half size larger. I have worn the same size shoe for forty years and rarely find that I have a problem with fit.
