The size of the shoe was slightly bigger than expected. I normally take a 9 but the shoe felt a half size bigger. However, after installing an inner sole the fit was perfect. After wearing the shoes for a couple of days the leather started to soften and the shoe started to develop character. Overall it's a great boot that I'm sure will be with me for many years to come...very pleased.

These are nice and constructed well with nice leather and soles, however, the heel area (as others have noted) is very big and the boots are narrow, not a true d width. The toe area also is huge, but not a problem. The boots give heel rise when walking, but I've found that a pair of insoles helps. As for breaking them in, I found that it was nothing unusual for a boot and took a couple of days to work in. Overall the style, similar to old military, is great and fitting could be better planned. With that said, I do not regret the purchase.

I read several reviews saying how comfortable these shoes were once they were broken in. They were immediately comfortable. This says a lot considering most footwear kills my lower back.These shoes are gorgeous. Incredibly well made which I expect from Red Wing. Workman-like in appearance but still sharp. Great with jeans. I'm between a 9 and a 9.5. I chose the 9. Plenty of room for both an insert and thick socks. Arch is low so pop in an insert if needed. Not much cushion either.

This is a traditionally built shoe/boot with a Norweigan welt. It lacks modern shoe elements like wicking lining, gore-tex,and cushioned insoles. Instead it is made with high quality full grain leather, leather insoles and vibram soles. The construction of this shoe is nothing but High Quality throughout. Beware, this shoe requires a break in period. I recommend only a few hours a day until the leather conforms to your foot and foot mechanics.The leather improves with wear. The leather sole conforms to your foot once broken in. The Gentleman Traveler is a versatile shoe and can be worn for many occasions.The last is long and narrow. Therefore I recommend ordering a size smaller than your typical shoe/running shoe size. Many reviewers have found this shoe to run narrow (perfect for me as I have a narrow foot-typically B or C width). If you are searching for arch support, you will not find it in this footwear. However, with time the arch conforms somewhat to your foot as the leather becomes more accustomed to your foot.

Great shoe! I would recommend it highly. I am a true size 10C(slightly narrow), but the 10 in this shoe was a bit large. I exchanged them for a 9.5 afterward and they are definitely on the tight side, but long enough. I am going to stick with these and I am sure they will give and stretch a bit.
