Founded by Mario Prada in 1913, Prada began as a small leather-goods shop in Milan. After taking over her grandfather's leather-goods business in 1978, Miuccia Prada transformed the company into a luxury goods label and began to change the way people viewed fashion. It started with her nylon bags, which earned Prada a devoted following, and in 1988, a women's ready-to-wear line was born. Today, Prada's collections define as well as challenge the fashion world each season. Prada presents fashion in revolutionary ways, dreams up impossible color schemes, and often pairs the serious with the sensual. In addition to Prada's forward-thinking clothes, there is also a footwear line, an exquisite handbags line, a sportswear line, and myriad beauty ventures, all of which play a role in making Prada one of the most recognized labels in the world.
