I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, he has 2 other Patagonia beanie style fleece hats. He loved it so much, I ordered another for him in a different color. It does run big, but my husband has a large head, so he is OK w/ the large. Normal people should prob order a M, especially if you want it to fit snug. It is not a thick hat, it is on the thin side, but just the right weight my husband was looking for. This is not a hat that you'll want to wear in the snow or windy conditions.
