New Balance M1540
1540s no more March 17, 2013

I've owned many pairs of New Balance over the years. I loved the last two pairs of 1123's, then New Balance in their brillant wisdom went to the 1540. I've owned these shoes for over a year. My toes touch the top and they are to narrow. After a year of trying to stretch them out I am finally trying to wear them with my orthotics, without much success. Currently out looking for a non-New Balance shoe. From what I've read many folks seemed happy with the 1123's, to bad New Balance couldn't stick with something that worked.

I really love New Balance shoes. With that being said, 1540s are different than the previous 1122 or 1123s that they replaced with the 1540s. They are smaller and narrower. Eventhough they are updated in style, I had to buy a half size larger and 4E instead of 2 E. I have a very hard time buying shoes because my feet are like Fred Flintstone... wide all the way from little toe to heel, so when I find a shoe that fits( like 1122 or 1123 then I stick with the style and the SL2 last. Not happy they revamped it but am dealing with them.

quality of sole September 18, 2012

I had previously ran in 580's- could not buy them any more. I am 200lb runner an bought pair of 587's on 09-3-12- On a run yesterday the rubber sole on heel came off shoe. I contacted New Balance and they are sending me another pair. I am blown away by poor quality of this shoe. I am glad it did not happen in the half marathon in 3wks. Will try out other brands after race. I would have expected more from for a shoe made for a heavier runner!

To me, New Balance fits the bill in every way, not the least being thequality of workmanship by people who made the shoes right here in theUnited States. The company deserves five-stars for that alone. I'll keep buying this shoe, when I need replacements.
