I was very impressed with how well-made this shoe is. My 3rd grade son needed a shoe that he could wear outside, which meant it had to be rugged, but I also wanted it to look nice. My son is also hard to fit, and needs a wide width. New Balance is one of the few shoe makers who specialize in wide shoes, and we were really happy to find this style. This boot looks good even with dressier clothes, but still looks cool enough for an 8 year old boy. The nubuck is a nice medium shade of brown and stays clean-looking. It is very cushioned, has excellent support, and my son says they are very comfortable. The only drawback is the laces--even at age 8 my son still has trouble tying his shoes, and he often complains of them coming untied. I wish they had a Velcro closure option, but the laces wouldn't stop me from purchasing these again. We almost always buy Stride Rite shoes for my son, because of his wide width, but based on the excellent quality and comfort of this shoe, I will consider buying New Balance shoes for him.

Little Rough on Ankles at First for a boy - Have to double tie them to keep them tied.Good Looking boot and waterproof.
