Light but tough, and designed to go the distance, with an upper that combines rugged Ballisticore with Nubuck strapping and overlays. Anatomical, under-arch bridge of Merrell's Vibram® Chisel™ Sole encourages a natural stride while peripheral lugs increase traction.
Nubuck leather and ballisticore lupper. Nubuck/ballisticore bellows tongue.
Polyester mesh lining. EVA anatomical footbed. 4mm tapered nylon grade 4 insole.
Full length EVA Air Cushion® midsole. Vibram® Chisel™ sole/trek rubber.

Durable Boot

Not a bad boot for the money, a lot of other contractors in Afghanistan use them too. The black rubber on the tow protector wore off in a few spots within days of use. From what I see and hear from other guys with this boot, the toe protector usually separates after a few months, I hope this was addressed with my purchase. Blood does not come out of the nubuck material on these boots. The quick tie on these boots is handy, however the first set of quick ties is a little low, and can cause some pain when tied very tight and your on walking outside your vehicle for long periods of time. Other than these minor points, great boot with great support. Some crunchy gore tex nuts may demand this boot in gore tex, but they obviously don't know what they're talking about. Again good boot, great price, you will be happy.

I have been a well served user of Merrell footwear for many years. This latest purchase, the Sawtooth, was driven by a need for greater support during "high activity" pursuits.One should expect a break in period as this is a true boot. The bulk of the Merrell line feels like a heavy duty sneaker and I like that, but this is a real boot. It is torsional stiff and offers improved support by employing a foot bed shank. These features help protect one from excessive foot and ankle stress while traversing uneven ground. Just a little more break-in time and I expect the rating of 3 to climb to 4 and all will be well.

I bought my first pair about two years ago. I use it to take my daily walks. The Sawtooth is light and comfortable, and it gives me a sense of confidence in difficult terrain. I also use it when I ride my motorcycle for short distances. I just love these shoes. I have a summer home and now I leave these there and just bought a new pair to be used at my main home. I find that the new ones don't require as much break-in as the older ones did. These shoes are extremely well-made with attention given to the smallest details.
