I made my first Merrell purchase while hiking in Utah. I hade taken another name brand hiking shoe and had to cut my first day of hiking short. We went into town and as soon as I tried them on I was sold. Hiking the rest of the week was a pleasure.

I bought the shoes for a grueling 3-day hiking trip in the White Mountains. Overall, I was extremely pleased. They didn't need to be broken in (a rarity for me) and kept my feet comfortable and dry despite wet, rocky terrain. My only complaint is that some of the tiny threads around 1-2 shoelace holes seem to be loosening up already. It makes no functional difference right now, but if it grows worse I'll be extremely annoyed. I can't give 5 stars due to this uncertainty.

Great boot for Afghanistan

I used these boots the last nine months of my deployment in Afghanistan and they were great. They fit great, had excellent cushioning, had great support on the rocks and the soles gripped even on the slick rocks. they were waterproof but my feet did not overheat even when the temperature was 115+. They performed much better than the military issued boots. I wore them when I got home and they were great around town. I just ordered another pair for my upcoming deployment.

I purchased these shoes for my son who moved North. I knew his feet were wet and cold. He says they keep his feet warm and dry. We are very pleased.

It is stiff enough to provide good ankle support when packing heavily-packed loads. I wish the tongue was a little longer.
