8.5 is my alternative to buying 8W and I find that this is a great substitute for some Merrel lines but not all, the avian sneakers work and the some sandals, but none of the dress shoes, which I am sorry to say, because these are excellent shoes, the 8 is too small and the 8.5 is too big. I might give the 8's another try because I like the brand so much, attractive, supportive, comfortable, could walk all day in them great.
