Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to widthThese sandals are simply outstanding. Great fit and exceptionally comfortable. My second pair, by the way. Mephisto shoes can sometimes feel a bit too wide, but the Sams are perfect for a medium width foot. I have friends who also own them and have gotten more than 10 years worth of wear so far.

These are, by far, the best things I've ever had on my feet. Have tried many others and there is no comparison. I carry dressy shoes in the car for short wearing when necessary. But, I love the way these look. I feel very stylish and up to date. My children think I'm "cool". As to the cost--worth every penny, and they last a looooong time.

Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt true to widthI have purchased 2 pairs of Mephisto sandals; 1 open and 1 backstrap. Both pairs were immediately comfortable; no skin irritations, etc. Mephisto soles and straps are superbly crafted. The soles are well raised, avoiding the aches and tired feet which occur in flattish soles; can be worn for long daily periods without the discomfort/sweating which arises in many other brands. Mephisto footwear is expensive, but I need to have most comfortable footwear, as I am a diabetes 2 health case. I consider that the well crafted backstrap sandal may not have a "cool" enough look for the more upmarket dresser, but it is probable that most backstrap designs for males may not meet this criteria. I purchased my open sandals some two years ago and I have had great comfort and good casual personal presentation in wearing same, for long hours over most months during each year. Also, I believe these sandals will last (presentably) for quite some some years into the future.
Wears this shoe: for say 9 months annually outside home ; 12 months inside home !

Shoe Size: Felt half size larger than marked Shoe Width: Felt wider than markedI was sure that the Mephisto's would be better and more comfortable. WOW! What a surprise. They are annoying to put on with a strap-type closure because you can't see the proper hole in the strap (why no Velcro closure?) In any event, I guess that they are OK, but simply OK.

Great for traveling July 06, 2007

Walked for miles in urban areas as well as the countryside without a problem and even kept them on the airplane. Extremely comfortable; I strongly recommnend them.

I'm getting ready to order another pair & have my old ones refurbished. I where mine almost daily in the summer and a couple times in the winter with socks. They are awesome.

Shoe Size: Felt true to size Shoe Width: Felt wider than markedFor many years, I have worn sandals year round; this kind of use is only possible with a very high quality sandal that is extremely comfortable. The Mephisto Sam is hands down the best everyday, all day, sandal I have ever worn.Many athletic shoes, e.g. New Balance walking shoes, have become increasingly narrower than indicated; I cannot wear a Medium in a New Balance walking shoe after being on my feet for a while, because of tightness from mild swelling. I can wear the Mephisto Sam in Medium width all day long with no discomfort at all--the width is more than adequate. In addition, the arch support and sole comfort is simply outstanding--my feet have not hurt AT ALL in the Mephisto Sam, and this is the ONLY sandal or shoe of the many I have worn (including Ecco, Clark's, etc.) that I can say this for. I was initially reluctant to purchase the Mephisto Sam because of the price; however, after having tried them and then lived with them, I am absolutely convinced they're worth it and have purchased additional colors to give me some variety. On top of all this, to my taste they are the best-looking Fisherman's style sandal I have ever seen.
