Great on the Border

These boots have a glove like, comfortable interior. They are sturdy and have good support for trail, and off trail use. I have also worn these boots standing all day for 4 days straight without my feet hurting. These are the best boots that I have found for duty use on the border. I am impressed.

Great Wildland Fire Archaeology Boot

I bought these boots to use on the job as a fire-qualified archaeologist for the National Park Service. I use the Lowa Banff as my everyday boot (from the office to surveys/excavations to multi-day backpacking with a 50+ lbs. bag) and it is a great boot. It has the same great fit and design of the Banff with thicker full-grain leather upper and over 9 1/2" of height. The Mega Camp is perfect for most of my wildland fire archaeology duties, except working directly in larger IA situations where there will be a lot of hot black. In those cases I'll stick to my Viberg low-heel traditional fire-fighting boots, which have a stitched-in Vibram sole that is not quite as comfortable, but more heat resistant. The Mega Camp is not specifically approved for wildland firefighting, but it matches all the specifications required(including USFS) and is an all-leather boot unlike the LaSportiva Glacier that so many firefighters are using now. I'm hoping that this sole will be replaceable, in being that it is the same sole as on my Lowa Banff boots and I will to replace those soles at the end of this year after 3 hard seasons of every day use. The uppers and lining of the Banff are still in great shape and I think the Mega Camp will be even tougher. I love Lowa Boots!

Tough as nails on the outside... soft as a baby's bottom inside.

I like this boot for it's rugged looks as well as it's rugged capabilities. It has a great Vibram sole with a pattern for traction and durability, a solid foundation with super ankle support. Depending on how you lace the boots, you may want them tighter in the instep area or tighter closer to the collar, but you can vary the way the boot fits on your foot by your lacing. I love the glove soft, cushioned leather lining that forms around your feet. I like to use instead of the stock insoles which come right out, a pair of New Balance Pressure Relief insoles made of Poron. These make all the difference in cushioned comfort. Not only boots but also shoes will feel better, the insoles can be trimmed with scissors to fit, just get the correct length which can also be trimmed to your foot size. Lowa boots are made by European Craftsmen who have been doing this for decades and have perfected a style that is unique. I like the black in this model since it can be polished and worn as semi-dress. Sneakers are fine for certain times but Hiking boots are the "Real Fashion" either in the city ... or in the DIRT and ROCKS where they were intended. Want to wear one of the best for outdoor activities or just want to be COOL and knock around? Remember one of the Best ... Lowa! I have 16 different models and they are all GOOD!!! P.S. Works well on motorcycles too.
