The rugged gruesomeness of this boot reminds me why I'm a lover not a killer of outdoors and nature. These boots should be estranged or strangely sought by more mountain goers. Great quality boot.

Excellent Sheep/Goat hunting boot

I successfully hunted Dall Sheep and Mountain Goat this past season in Alaska. I tested some very stiff Lowa leather boots on the sheep hunt, and the Civetta plastics on the goat hunt. Hands down, the Civetta wins! I was one step away from death in some steep and rugged mountains on both hunts, but I felt infinitely safer in the plastics. I was able to sidehill much more efficiently in the plastics -- you can actually walk on the edge of the boots, so there is no fatiguing ankle roll like that which occurs in the less-stiff leathers. Also, ascents and descents are much more comfortable. I never felt any heel rub going up, and experienced no crushed toes coming down. These are the only boots I will ever use from now on up here in the rugged Alaskan mountains.

I've had this boot out on one major excursion up on Mt. Rainier and have had great success. The boot was true to size (size US 15), did not give me any blister, or any shin bruising. However, I was wearing sock liners, thick socks and knew how to properly tie the laces. The only downside to this boot was my toes did get cold from time to time. If you were going to go anywhere that had extremely cold temperatures I may look elsewhere or for a more heavy insulated boot liner.

Just wanted to chime in on the sizing. Multiple reviews out there on these boots give advice on sizing up or down. I have a flat, narrow, size 14 foot. I find that these fit EXACTLY like my Lowa Echo GTX boots. In size 14, they are comfortable and have enough room to add a mid to heavy-weight hiking sock. As I don't have any need to wear these in June in Japan, the rest of my review will have to wait until next winter.

nice shoes, not for extreme cold

Wore these shoes on NOLS Himalayas mountaineering course. These shoes were comfortable on snow (on trail, not so fun) but my toes did get a bit frostnippy in them (frostnip, trenchfoot or just kicking a lot of steps?), they are still numb a couple of weeks later (in boots defence, I was not the only one- there were 2 or 3 others with different boots also) the liners are also difficult to insert into the plastic shell, especially with cold hands. Overall these shoes were very good.
