I have one kid with a wide foot and one with a narrow foot and they both love these for hiking. They do so much better now that they have these shoes. The traction is great. They are very cute too.

Keen Akita Ankle Boot
Soft comfortable neat ankle boots

The first pair of Keen shoes I bought in the past were walking boots. I bought them the day before a trek in the Annapurna region of the Himalayas. With no time to wear them in, they were incredibly comfortable. The only pair left in the shop were size 8. I normally take a size 7 or 7.5. But the 8's were fine. I have several other Keen shoes now but in size 7.5. I chose size 8 for the new Keen ankle boots from Shoebuy, as they had to come from Boston to Australia and I didn't expect to be able to return them if they were the wrong size. I decided I would still be able to wear them even if they were a bit big, but impossible if too small and tight. In fact they are a bit loose at the back - there is a space behind my heels and I would have preferred a size smaller. But with thick socks they are OK. They feel soft, warm and comfortable, and have a nice flexible sole which I always look for and is a reason I like the Keen shoes. They look nice, neat and smart.
Wears this shoe: With jeans or with tights and a skirt - in smart casual situations.

This shoe fits like a glove. entry and exit is very easy, especially for an oldie like me who can't bend down very easily anymore. But the ankle collar is very stiff, this hurts when I stand on an incline or steep bank...I am hoping this will soften a little as I wear-in the boots. The look is very nice, great support, I like the toe rubber as it saved my toes from getting crushed by a dropped rock. (I use my boots for low-stress hiking and mostly heavy duty gardening. The color is excellent and the value was definitely there. I would give this shoe a 5 if it weren't for the overly stiff ankle collar.

Knowing Keen products, I ordered an 11.5, although I'm an 11. Sure enough, the 11.5 fit, and if I ordered an 11 it would have been too small.The hooks where you loop the laces through are to narrow- I had to concentrate on making the laces actually loop the laces through the hooks because they never caught on the first time. I noticed the laces on my right boot starting to fray from the hooks after a day and a half of wearing these boots around town, with no strenuous use. I had to submit a warranty claim to Keen, and hopefully I can send them to Keen to exchange it for the Ontario boot, which looks better.

My four year-old son loves these! My only minor complaint is that they're lace-ups, so these boots are a little bit more work for me--until my son learns to tie for himself. Otherwise, we are really pleased. He has worn them every single day for the past 3-4 weeks and they still look and feel great.
