    Q. What is Claw Toe?

    what is claw toe

    A. A claw toe occurs when the joint at the end of a toe is unable to straighten, causing the toe to point down or up.

    What causes it?
Nerve damage resulting from diseases such as diabetes or alcoholism often causes this painful abnormality.

    Treatment:
When claw toe is identified and cared for early and properly, it's possible to avoid invasive forms of treatment, though in more serious cases, surgery may be necessary. Look for shoes that aren't too tight, and try to avoid styles that squeeze your toes (i.e. pointed shoes and high heels). Specifically, you'll want to choose a shoe that features a wide toe box, which is the area that surrounds your foot from the knuckle joints to the tips of your toes.
