    Q. What is a Bunion?

    what is a bunion

    A. We've all heard our grandmothers talk about them before, but what actually is a bunion? Well, it's an unnatural, bony hump that forms at the base of the big toe, and it can cause serious discomfort.

    Can I prevent bunions?
While bunions can be hereditary, there are steps you can take to avoid them. Especially if you suffer from poor or weak foot structure or have arthritis, try to avoid tight, poorly fitting shoes, particularly high-heeled and pointed ones, as these may push the foot bones into an unnatural shape over time, potentially leading to bunions. Additionally, people with over-pronated (flat) feet often prone to developing bunions, and may benefit from wearing running shoes with additional arch support or orthotics.
