My Hi-Tec "Cape Trail" are one year old and have reached the end of their useful life. The uppers, inners, and stitching are all fine. The sole has the illusion of being 1/4" to 1/2" thick but is actually hollow! The knobs on the tread are hollow and have worn through allowing water to accumulate in the airspace that's left. This causes an annoying and embarrassing squishing noise. If the knobs on the tread of the sole were solid, as one would expect, instead of hollow, these shoes would have at least another year of wear left in them. I've worn out many pairs of shoes and I've never seen a hollow tread before. A very poor design by Hi-Tec.

The shoe has style, is well made and comfortable. I have wide feet and the wide size was quite a bit more narrow than other wide shoes. More like a D width.

I have another Hi-Tec brand hiker that I wear a size 15 in. Got this one in a 15 and it was too small. Had to order a 16 for it to fit properly.
