I have been trying to find a replacement for my beloved SmartWools, because the quality of SmartWools seems to have really gone down, and at $16 a pair, I expect socks to be comfortable AND long-lasting.First the positive: the bamboo-wool blend really is soft, warm, and comfortable. These socks feel delicious on the feet, and my partner ADORES them.Here's why I give them only three stars. At first I bought a pair of mediums, for me (women's size 9 shoe) and a pair of smalls, for my partner (women's size 6). The smalls were regular crew socks, coming to low-mid calf. But the mediums were knee-high. I hate knee-high socks. It isn't that the socks were too big, either, and that's the other issue. The smalls were too small for my tiny-footed partner, and the mediums are too small for me. They come up too high, AND the foot part is a little too snug. For me.Ask my partner, though, and she will give them 5+ stars. She wears the mediums now, and they fit her feet. She doesn't mind the knee-high "crew" sock, either. And the thick, warm, soft fabric is her favorite.So if you have little tiny feet and don't mind knee-high socks, these may be for you. They appear to be well-made, they just don't fit me right.

Expensive, but great product if cost not a concern September 22, 2010

A great heavy sock (will add 1/2 to 1 shoe size). Very low friction--solved a blister issue with mountain/trail marathon training. If you have hardwood floors, be careful walking in only the socks as it will be as slick as ice! Only downside is that the sock does not wear well. After just a few wash/wear cycles, you'll need to "pluck" balls of the material that develop on the surface to ensure that you do not develop "hot spots" when running. If cost is no concern, this is certainly a five star product.

These are by far the best all around merino wool socks I have ever owned. So far, they wear well and seem to stand up to washings. Very Comfortable.A friend recommended that I buy these socks as both of us are on our feet many hours of the day.
