What in 1856 was set out as a factory producing blank movements for watches, in time grew into a mature manufacturing enterprise, thanks to the vision and tenacity of founding partner Urs Schild. As a family-owned company, Eterna has remained faithful to its original philosophy - that of perfecting the classic art of the watchmaker's craft. It has managed this with great aplomb, as can be seen from the series of milestones that has marked the past 150 years such as the introduction, in 1914, of the first alarm wristwatch at the Swiss National Exhibition in Bern as well as the setting of the international standards in self-winding mechanisms by introducing the Eterna-matic in 1948, and the remarkable, world-first, analogue quartz Eterna Museum wristwatch, measuring just .098 millimiters in height.
