Theses shoes are the most comfortable that I have ever worn and they are so lightweight that I do not get tired of wearing them.

Tongariro Different; Lacks Heel Support: Watch Out.

Ecco has been making variations on this type of shoe with the comfortable open mesh yet firm all around support for several years, and although they come out with a new version every time I turn around, I have been a fan of it for quite some time and never had a problem until now. The Tongariro is different, so beware. The heel support of the Tongariro is far inferior to the previous models, and the laces do not come up high enough. The Tongariro lack the larger and firmer heel cup. Whereas the lateral rear support previously consists of lateral leather strips that extend from the lower back of the heel upwards forward to the top of the tongue, the Tongariro has strips that extend in the opposite direction, from the top of the heel down towards the bottom of the arch. The previous models also had 5 rows of laces-channels, whereas the Tongariro has only 4 sets of laces-channels. The result is much less support overall. The new Tongariro looks the same, but feels entirely different and, well, sloppy.

Just what I wanted!

I was looking for a lightweight shoe that I felt comfortable slipping on for a number of activities - walks, light trail, travel, blue jeans, casual Fridays, etc. I selected this Ecco model for technical features and looks. Out of the box, I was happy that the pictures were accurate. Having tried on several shoes in stores and another brand by mail, and being disappointed, it was amazing that a shoe sent by mail fit my foot right the first time. The feel is light and the support is good to excellent. I like the fact that the shoes don't try to correct my style of walking. I like the elastic lacing feature - very convenient. The shoe appears to have good ventilation for the upcoming summer months, and I will enjoy that feature a lot. I have 7 pairs of Ecco shoes, from heavy hiking, casual dress, knock-around, trail, and sandals. Each pair has provided me excellent comfort and support, and consistent quality for long term use. I expect this pair to measure up well.
