Shoebuy Insider on ECCO Shoes
The founder of ECCO, Karl Toosbuy, started his company with a basic goal. Unsatisfied with the trend of producing shoes that forced feet into uncomfortable positions, Toosbuy aimed to create footwear that was designed to properly fit the foot. He set up shop in a small Danish town in 1963 and created what would quickly become an international shoe company based on comfort and quality.
ECCO takes unique steps to ensure quality in all of its footwear. Unlike many companies, ECCO owns the various steps of the production process, including the tanneries and factories where leather and shoes are made. This allows the company to have complete quality control over each step in the shoe making process, which is reflected in the finished product. As a result of its careful attention to comfort and quality, ECCO is able to produce shoes, like the Seawalker, that provide the comfortable feel of walking shoes while retaining a high quality leather aesthetic.
ECCO's dedication to comfort doesn't stop at men's walking and casual shoes. ECCO's repertoire also includes elegant but comfortable women's Mary Janes and strappy sandals. Additionally, ECCO offers its RXP Running Shoe and Yucatan Sandal in both men's and women's styles. More recently, ECCO made an impact on the golf world with various golf shoes, like the Casual Cool II, that bring style and comfort to the age old sport.
Despite the immense expansion of ECCO over the nearly 50 years of the company's existence, some things have not changed. The company is still family owned and based in Denmark. And, ECCO continues to use high quality materials and innovative designs to give consumers shoes that simultaneously fit their feet and look good.
