Focus on the Sole

Having never owned a pair of these shoes before, they feel very awkward at first. It feels like you're walking on your heels due to the shape of the soles. I can't really tell whether or not they help my back at all, but they are pretty comfortable once you get used to them. Basically the front part of the sole is much thicker than the heel so all your weight is on the heel, and your feet feel like they're angled upwards when you walk - it's hard to explain. The upper part of the shoe feels kind of like plastic or vinyl and reminds me of kids shoes with the velcro closure. They definitely aren't the lightest in weight either.

I like the way this shoe is constructed, with the heel lower than the toes. It changes the whole body balance making you walk straighter. It's a well-made shoe and has ample air vents to cool your feet.

Earth Shoes still Rock

I wore Earth Shoes in the 60's and loved the comfort once I got used to having my Achilles tendons stretched out. I was re-united with the brand via the Rocket-K almost 2 years ago. It's been a total delight. I bought this pair as a replacement. I wear them nearly every day (Spring to Fall)when I walk the dogs or on casual outings around town. They breathe well. The negative heel is said to be good for posture and the lower back, and I'd say, if having to stand in one place for some time, that I'm less inclined to feel tension in my low back when wearing these shoes. Your calves get a bit more work out due to the rocker sole For this reason, I wouldn't be in a hurry to go jogging in them. But for walking, they're dynamite!
