I've been wearing these only for a few days, so I can't comment on their durability. I may be back later to do that, meanwhile here are some first impressions. They seem to be solid boots, and I like the style. Comfortable to walk in right from the start, without any need to break them in. The downside so far is that dye from the interior is badly staining my socks. These are the made-in-China version, so someone needs to get on their case about making sure the dyes in the boots are properly fixed. We're not talking about just a little colour, it's red ankles all round.

I am a wilderness ranger and this is the boot available from our uniform supplier. I backpack with this boot ~600 miles per year carrying a 40 pound pack. I am on my third pair of these boots, as I must order a new pair every year due to tread wear. The boots are a bit heavy, but I guess that is the trade off for such a bomber backpacking boot. My only complaint is that the leather on the inside of the boot, above the ankle, stains my socks. I have a cordovan band around all my socks, due to the leather getting wet with sweat and the dye coming off.

This boot severs my purpose of living in the country with dogs and horses. I hike with my dogs everyday in the woods and fields all year round. I don't ride in these boots but use them for mucking. The protected sides will hopefully make them stand up to the mud and manure so they will last longer than boots with full leather sides. I could tell you more how I like them after I've had them for a year seeing that they are very new right now. I'm not sure how I like the elastic type laces. I may switch to leather.

Wanted something more rugged than the Timberland light hikers I have. The full grain leather, stiff Vibram out sole and GoreTex liner were the important elements. It doesn't hurt that they are pretty good looking, too. They were comfortable out of the box, but are still a little stiff and will take some breaking in. Can't beat the Shoebuy.com price and return policy.
