I tried a hiking boot recommeded by backpacker's magazine but it was to narrow. I have a mid-wide foot, I purchased a Danner Ascend in my normal size 9 and it fit like a glove. I did not order the wide size. I walked around the block a few times them took a two mile hike. Last weekend I hiked Mt. Whitney and I could not have asked for a better boot. It was 20 degrees with a 50 mph wind but my Danner Ascend kept me warm. I did not get any blisters or even a hot spot. I would recommend these boots for hiking with a pack 40-50 lbs. I did not feel the rocks and stones which filled the trail yet the soles kept great traction. Great boot....
