Its a great looking boot. I immediately felt comfortable with it. This is my fourth pair of danners and wouldn't own anything else.

I bought my first pair of Danner 453 GTX boots to climb Kilimanjaro in 2007, and have since climbed several peaks in the Eastern Sierra's in these boots. Snowshoed the high country around Bear Valley, CA over the past several seasons in these same boots. Now worn thin and splitting at the seams, I was so glad to find that they make the same boot in 2011!

These boots felt comfortable and had a lot of leather for protection. However, they are heavier than the 452X. As I looked the boots over, I felt there was a weak design where the upper material met the front rubber toe area near the sole. It was visibly thin and could be pushed in with your finger and appeared that this would eventually crack or wear out under heavy use. This observation of the toe and sole area did not appear as rugged as th 452X, so I decided to return the 453X.
