I had a pair of Desert Treks back in the mid-'70s. I loved them then and wore them 'till they fell apart, then was unable to find a replacement pair. These (and all Clarks shoes I've ever had) are top quality and worth the price. The only criticism I have for the new Desert Treks is that the laces could be better quality--perhaps rawhide.

I was looking for a sturdy supportive shoe for gardening, hiking, camping -- a general knock about shoe with inherent good looks, comfort and not specific to any one activity. I was also looking for a sole that would not track dirt into the house or car.Having owned a pair of these shoes twenty-plus years ago, I hoped to be able to find them once again. Now I have my second pair, thanks to shoebuy.com, and at a discounted price!The leather finish is easily rubbed fresh with little effort and a soft cloth. I think the only disappointing thing is the thin laces, but I can replace those with my preference which is leather laces. The gum soles are shock absorbent and give good traction. You can't go wrong with Clark's original design and enduring quality.
