I have these in both the black and shiraz colors and love both equally. Yes, they are stiff when you first get them and you will need to break the leather in. I found the "break in" period to be rather quick and they are ridiculously comfortable once broken in. Pretty much lived in these this past winter. Also, I consider my calves to be on the larger side and these boots are perfect. They're nice because since there are laces, you can adjust the tightness in the calf area. The zipper also makes it super easy to take the boots on and off. I really do love these and find them pretty versatile as they look cute with skinny jeans or skirts. If I could find these in grey I would buy a third pair!
