Spikes are specifically made shoes that have small metal (or other material) spikes on the sole of the shoe. The Spikes have a small diameter (Cleats are larger knobs on the soles and a Cleat could be a group of Spikes). Spikes are common on Golf Shoes because the spikes help with traction in grass. Runners also may use Spikes for the grip with the ground when running.
