Handwear refers to articles of apparel designed to cover the hand and wrist. The most common handwear articles are gloves, muffs, and mittens. Gloves are made from a wide variety of materials and are used generally to provide protection from the cold, skin protection from friction and/or enhance dexterity and grip such as the case of golf and baseball gloves. Muffs and mittens are tube-like handwear made of warm and insulating materials which can be both open or closed at one end.
Mittens are an apparel item worn over the hands that houses the thumb in one section and all four fingers in a second section to provide warmth and protection to the wearer's hands. Mittens may come in a variety of materials.
