Arch support generally refers to the part of the insole of the shoe that raises right at the level of the arch to provide support to the midfoot. Arch support also refers to individual insole cups with a molded shape that fit the arch and are placed inside the shoe to help relieve foot or heel pain.

I have used these Birkenstock inserts for a number of years and I love them. I can put these inserts in many different types of shoes and still get that great Birkenstock arch support. I put them in my tennis shoes as well as my work boots and the inserts fit wonderfully in both.

I had recently bought the Dr Scholl's orthotics and they did not work for me. I have a pair of Birkenstock sandals that help alleviate my heel pain so I was hopeful that the footbeds would work just as well and they do. I am using a shoe that is 1/2 size larger than normal because it does cause a tighter fit but I have wide feet to begin with. They did not require a break-in period for me and were comfortable from the first use. I especially like how they do not cause my foot to be pushed forward in my shoe. I bought the same size as the sandals i have.
