Betmar, New York, was born in the depth of the Great Depression - the year was 1933 - hat business was flourishing in spite of the difficult economic times. The top salespeople in the business were Elizabeth and Murray Marks. Although successful on the sales end, they were in need of a strong factory. They sought a skilled manufacturer and found M. Grossman & Son, an old-line cap maker with roots dating back to 1911. Betmar, New York was born, the name taken from Betty Marks, who was the first designer. Within six months Betmar blossomed as a major brand around the country.
