Little or no break-in period, I hiked with them sraight out of the box and they were great, no hot spots anywhere. The Aku last seems the perfect volume for my feet. I have been wearing nothing but Aku for about ten years now and am never disappointed.

After shopping for over a year for hiking boots to replace my wornout Vasque Sundowners I stumbled on to the Shoebuy website. I ordered a pair each of the Outback Pro, Granite, and Utah Plus. Never heard of Aku boots before but they were Italian, according to the web site, and looked good in the photo. The Granite, advertised as Italian, was actually made in Romania and inferior in quality. The Utah Plus was made in Italy and appears to be a good quality boot but about an inch too high for my tastes, and a bit pricy. The Outback seems well made with a good quality lacing system and a comfortable fit. The rubber rand should help with the rocky off-trail abuse they will get. Be advised the Aku boots seems to run about a 1/2 size large and the medium width feels wider than my old Sundowners. I got many years of good service out of my (Italian made) Vasques and just couldn't see taking a chance on the Chinese ones now on the market. With the 20% off sale the price was right. Time will tell how they break in, and if they hold up to the rough backpacking and hunting I do in the Colorado high country.
