Great boots

I had a pair of unknown model AKU's for 9 years that had held up wonderfully (still are sturdy, comfortable, and have tread), but I wanted something a bit lighter for backpacking, hiking, and working in the woods. I did a lot of research and ended up with the Croda GTX due to height, weight, and features. I've worn this boot for about 6 months to work, on hard concrete floors, up and down stairs, in fields, and on a bit of pavement. Every day I come home and my feet don't hurt. Working in this boot is great because it is very light, but offers plenty of comfort and support. I went on a backpacking trip to Grayson Highlands, VA and found these boots work very well, but are a bit shy in the heel padding. I'm 185 lbs and was carrying a 47 lb pack. The addition of a padded insole quickly solved this problem. My only other complaint is that the tread is a bit shallow. The boots grip well on dirt, mud, and all hard surfaces. They grip EXTREMELY well on rocks. I worry that the shallow tread may shorten the life, but so far they are holding up very well, even working on hard surfaces. The boots do not move around excessively, which has been a problem with some other boots that I have owned. Overall, I would highly recommend this boot.

Nice boots

For the last 20 years I have had a hard time finding hiking/backpacking boots that fit. I recently tried on literally every brand of mid weight backpacking boots in southern california, and found the AKU croda's to be the most comfortable. One problem I have in all boots is heel lift. Although my heels lift a little more than i would like in the Crodas, it is workable. these boots are very comfortable w/ nice mid sole cushioning. They have a good lug soled vibram sole and a large rubber rand to protect the leather from rocks and water. I can attest that they are waterproof as I have had them almost to the top crossing creeks with no wet feet. Highly recommended boot.

Aku Croda GTX Review

I like everything about these hiking boots, except they are as ugly as they look in the picture. That is not a big factor to me though, because the comfort, durability, and waterproofness makes up for the color. It truly is a pain-free break in and as long as they last me a long time I would definitely buy another pair.
