Danner Striker Torrent Side-Zip GTX 8"
Another well made boot from Danner
March 16, 2013
Reviewer: Crooked Mile from Atlanta GA
I already owned several pairs of Danner boots and decided to try the black GTX with side zipper. I wear a medium but these Danner's were a bit too snug. I was afraid there wouldn't be enough stretch and didn't want to risk it with boots this expensive. I returned them and had Shoebuy replace them with a wide pair. These fit much better and I'm expecting them to last a long time. The quality of the materials is first rate as is the craftsmanship. It's evident when looking them over or wearing them. I've only been wearing them off and on for a few weeks and will report back if any problems crop up. I also wear Danner TFX Hot boots and a couple different Wolverine styles so I don't usually wear the same boots on consecutive days. I was surprised to need a wide in this boot so you might want to try and find a pair locally and try them on before ordering. Shoebuy was great in handling the return and replacement but even when the process goes smoothly, it's still a hassle.

Lowa Renegade III GTX Mid
Worn for years
January 06, 2013
Reviewer: Pam from Spokane
I've had these for years and have hiked all over, steep, rocky, wet. In fact, I'm starting to think about my replacement pair, they've been stitched up once and the soles are getting thin. Thankfully, it appears they haven't changed anything. As to waterproofness, they have gotten wet a couple of times in extended wet conditions, but usually, they are fine. Walking through little creeks is not a problem. It is such a hassle having narrow feet, it is great to find a boot that is so comfortable on the trail all day long.

I have had two falls with a fracture last winter on ice. These shoes have given me confidence and will be permanently attached to my feet. Great traction and stability. My new best winter friends.

TrekSta Evolution Mid GTX
remarkably comfortable hiking shoes
October 03, 2012
Reviewer: Alexia from Lexington, VA
These shoes immediately felt very different and much better than other hiking shoes I've tried on. They seemed to hug the foot and yet provide plenty of room for the toes. I have narrow, blister-prone feet, narrower in the heel. At the suggestion of a shoe salesperson (who carried Treksta but didn't have my size), I decided to try these. Now I've had a chance to wear them on the trail, and so far they've been remarkably comfortable right from the start (resulting in a very slight blister-tendency, nothing like what I usually experience). I'd certainly recommend these shoes to narrow-footed folks like me, and I suspect they would adjust to wider feet as well, by way of the good lacing arrangement.I tried two sizes, 8 and 8.5, and ended up keeping the 8.5s. I'm not sure that was the right choice. In a hiking shoe, it's hard to tell whether the toe room is adequate for downhill hiking until you get out on the trail. The unusual shape & fit of these made this guess a little trickier. The foot-shaped interior of the smaller size might have been a bit more comfortable. Ideally, you'd be able to give these a good try on a downhill slope before settling on the size.
